The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification

Mrs. Zanabu Lukuta represented SJS Organic Farm at Kilimo Endelevu Arusha, a program implemented by RECODA,

MVIWAARUSHA, IDP, and CARI to promote sustainable farming and food systems in the Arusha region, enhancing the resilience of both the population and the ecosystem. These organizations support the agroecological transition of small-scale farms, restore degraded land, market agroecological products, involve local authorities, and advocate for public policies in favor of agroecology. This aligns with the goals of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), which, since its adoption in 1994, provides an international framework to address land degradation, restore productivity, improve livelihoods, and reduce the impact of droughts. Civil society organizations play an essential role in voicing concerns and influencing discussions at the Conferences of the Parties (COPs), contributing to global efforts toward land degradation neutrality (LDN).
